Some friends, colleagues and myself, have started the above
project to provide an opportunity for Psychologists to give proactive, tangible
assistance to needy children / communities. The intention is to at a later
stage give intervention based assistance probono by adopting one school. Considering
the busy schedules of colleagues we have only focused on donating school shoes.
In March, we donated 28 pairs. See picture of the situation we found there.
The need is so dire. The motive really is that psychological ailments or
disorder are often as a result of poverty. Self-image development for children
depends sometimes basic things such as whether the child has descent uniform
and school shoes. Hence this is our small way of contributing in a proactive
manner one child at a time. The aim is also to encourage us as Psychologists to
get out of boardrooms, therapy rooms, etc. to donate to communities around us,
if we are not already doing so.
We managed 26 pairs just from donations amongst ourselves and are looking for
other colleagues who may be keen to donate 1 or two pairs of shoes once or
twice a year to join this initiative.
Please could you share with the colleagues and those interested could contact
me.
Kind Regards;
